Like a Child of the Kingdom of God!

Like a Child of the Kingdom of God!

By Riqui Ricón*

Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out. And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God (Luke 13:24–29, KJV).

In contrast to the carnal kingdom of this world, the kingdom of God is the kingdom of the Holy Spirit. It is the dimension where we—the children of God, born again in the image and likeness of our Savior Jesus Christ—can and must live out Eternal Life, the full and abundant Life that has been granted to us through Jesus.

Many believers fail by confusing the kingdom of God with heaven and by believing that they will earn entrance into the kingdom if they perform enough righteous works. They fail because they forget that the Bible, the Word of God—which does not lie—clearly teaches us that,

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them (Ephesians 2:8–10, KJV).

Above all, the kingdom of God is the present time; it is this very moment you are living—here and now. As the Christian scholar C. S. Lewis, author of The Chronicles of Narnia, wrote: “Human beings live in time but are destined for eternity. God therefore, I think, wants them to attend chiefly to two things: to

eternity itself, and to that point of time which they call the present. For the present is the point at which time touches eternity. Of the present moment, and of it only, humans have an experience analogous to the experience which God has of reality as a whole; only in the present are freedom and actuality offered them” (C. S. Lewis, The Screwtape Letters, 1941).

And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17:20–21, KJV).

Jesus was warning the Jews that they could be excluded from the kingdom while many others who were not Jews would be accepted and would have a place in the kingdom of God. The good news—and the only news, because this is what the Gospel is all about—is that you, a born-again child of God, are already a child and a citizen of that Kingdom.

So then, if as Scripture says you are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand for you to walk in them (Ephesians 2:10, KJV), then the only thing you have to do—the only work you must carry out—is to believe. Believe God, believe the Bible, and then begin to walk in those good works, manifesting your new nature as a child who resembles the Father.

As unbelievable or astonishing as it may seem, this is the narrow gate that allows you entrance into the Kingdom of God: faith. That’s right—it seems that putting ALL YOUR TRUST, SECURITY, AND HOPE in the words of that book called the Bible, which you claim to be the Word of God, is harder than it looks. It is easier and more spacious to believe and listen to the voices of this world with its doctors, analysts, lawyers, journalists, counselors, and excellent professionals.

As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness (Psalm 17:15, KJV).

That’s right, my beloved—you will be satisfied when you realize that, according to the will of God, by His love and the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, you truly

are a born-again child of God and can, and must, live a full and abundant life, because now you are according to His likeness.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father (John 14:12, KJV).

That is why you can do the same works that Jesus did, and even greater ones, because you are like Jesus and He is with the Father—who is also your Father. That is why the Bible declares that by love you are now in this world just as He is.

Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17, KJV).

Today you need to realize that it is not the difficulty or severity of your situation, illness, or problem that determines how you will finish and come out of it all, but rather what God says in His Word about you and about the abilities you now have as a child of the Kingdom.

There is no way for you to lose in this life!

Let’s pray out loud:

Beloved heavenly Father, I want to thank You for Your great love with which You have loved me. You not only justified me and forgave me by paying for all my sins with the life and blood of Your Son Jesus, but You also adopted me as Your child, according to the good pleasure of Your will, to give me eternal life and make me a child of the Kingdom. Thank You so much, Lord Jesus, because now I know that in all things, in any problem, distress, or sickness, I,

(your name here), am more than a conqueror through Your love. I am an heir of God and a joint heir together with Christ Jesus! With Your help, Holy Spirit, I have decided to embrace my identity as a child of the King so that I may take my place within the Kingdom. Therefore, I resist the spirit of fear and doubt. I declare myself healed from any sickness or disease, and I fully trust that You, my God, will supply all that I lack according to Your riches in glory. So, I am healed! I am free! I am prosperous! I am blessed! Now I truly know that the works my King and Savior did, I can do as well—and even

greater ones—because You, Jesus, are with Your Father, who is also my Father. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Important Note:

How do I become a Child of God? How do I establish a relationship with the Almighty?

Just say the following prayer aloud, putting all your attention and heart into what you are saying to God:

Lord Jesus, I believe that You are the Son of God. That You came into this world, born of the virgin Mary, to pay for all my sins, and I have been a sinner. Therefore, today I say that I accept. I accept Your sacrifice on the cross! I accept Your precious Blood shed to the last drop out of love for me! I open my heart to You and invite You in because I want, Lord Jesus, that from today and forever You be my only and sufficient Savior, my God, my King, and my Lord.

Thank You, Almighty God, because with this simple prayer and profession of faith I have passed from death to Life, I have been transferred from darkness to Your marvelous Light. Today I have been Born Again! God, now I am Your Child! Now You are my Father! I will never be alone again! I will never live defeated again. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Three Recommendations:

What just happened by you recognizing Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior of your life, according to God's Word, is that you have been Born Again. No longer as an ordinary human being, subject to the law of sin and death, but now as a legitimate and authentic Child of God, Born Again, exactly like Jesus Christ, who is now your Older Brother. Therefore, I give you these three, very important, recommendations:

1.    Pray. Praying is talking with God. So, find a quiet place where you can begin talking to Him about everything. Do it out loud, and you will notice how God always responds to your heart.

2.    Read and meditate on the Word of God. The Bible is the Word of God, so get a Bible and start reading and meditating on it. How do you begin? It’s very simple. Depending on the day, look up the reading program “The

Bible in One Year” and do the corresponding readings. You can get this program at: Through The Bible In One Year (palabradehonor.org). You will notice that the program is set up so you can print it as a booklet.

3.    In prayer with God, your Father, look for and join a Christian church or congregation where the Word of God is taught based on the Good News, which are the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Reading and Meditation on the Word of God

Do these daily readings, and by the end of one year you will have read the entire Bible.

January 17    Luke 13.18-35 / Genesis 24 / Psalm 17 Luke

13.18 Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it?

19  It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.

20  And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God?

21  It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

22  And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.

23  Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,

24  Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

25  When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:

26  Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.

27  But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.

28  There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.

29  And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.

30  And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.

31  The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee.

32  And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.

33  Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.

34  O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!

35  Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Genesis

24 And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.

2  And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh:

3  And I will make thee swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:

4  But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.

5  And the servant said unto him, Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land: must I needs bring thy son again unto the land from whence thou camest?

6  And Abraham said unto him, Beware thou that thou bring not my son thither again.

7  The LORD God of heaven, which took me from my father's house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; he shall send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence.

8  And if the woman will not be willing to follow thee, then thou shalt be clear from this my oath: only bring not my son thither again.

9  And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and sware to him concerning that matter.

10  And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master, and departed; for all the goods of his master were in his hand: and he arose, and went to Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor.

11  And he made his camels to kneel down without the city by a well of water at the time of the evening, even the time that women go out to draw water.

12  And he said O LORD God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham.

13  Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water:

14  And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.

15  And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.

16  And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.

17  And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water of thy pitcher.

18  And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.

19  And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.

20  And she hasted, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again unto the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.

21  And the man wondering at her held his peace, to wit whether the LORD had made his journey prosperous or not.

22  And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold;

23  And said, Whose daughter art thou? tell me, I pray thee: is there room in thy father's house for us to lodge in?

24  And she said unto him, I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, which she bare unto Nahor.

25  She said moreover unto him, We have both straw and provender enough, and room to lodge in.

26  And the man bowed down his head, and worshipped the LORD.

27  And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master's brethren.

28  And the damsel ran, and told them of her mother's house these things.

29  And Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban: and Laban ran out unto the man, unto the well.

30  And it came to pass, when he saw the earring and bracelets upon his sister's hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, Thus spake the man unto me; that he came unto the man; and, behold, he stood by the camels at the well.

31  And he said, Come in, thou blessed of the LORD; wherefore standest thou without? for I have prepared the house, and room for the camels.

32  And the man came into the house: and he ungirded his camels, and gave straw and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet, and the men's feet that were with him.

33  And there was set meat before him to eat: but he said, I will not eat, until I have told mine errand. And he said, Speak on.

34  And he said, I am Abraham's servant.

35  And the LORD hath blessed my master greatly; and he is become great: and he hath given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and asses.

36  And Sarah my master's wife bare a son to my master when she was old: and unto him hath he given all that he hath.

37  And my master made me swear, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell:

38  But thou shalt go unto my father's house, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son.

39  And I said unto my master, Peradventure the woman will not follow me.

40  And he said unto me, The LORD, before whom I walk, will send his angel with thee, and prosper thy way; and thou shalt take a wife for my son of my kindred, and of my father's house:

41  Then shalt thou be clear from this my oath, when thou comest to my kindred; and if they give not thee one, thou shalt be clear from my oath.

42  And I came this day unto the well, and said, O LORD God of my master Abraham, if now thou do prosper my way which I go:

43  Behold, I stand by the well of water; and it shall come to pass, that when the virgin cometh forth to draw water, and I say to her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water of thy pitcher to drink;

44  And she say to me, Both drink thou, and I will also draw for thy camels: let the same be the woman whom the LORD hath appointed out for my master's son.

45  And before I had done speaking in mine heart, behold, Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down unto the well, and drew water: and I said unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee.

46  And she made haste, and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: so I drank, and she made the camels drink also.

47  And I asked her, and said, Whose daughter art thou? And she said, the daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milcah bare unto him: and I put the earring upon her face, and the bracelets upon her hands.

48  And I bowed down my head, and worshipped the LORD, and blessed the LORD God of my master Abraham, which had led me in the right way to take my master's brother's daughter unto his son.

49  And now if ye will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me: and if not, tell me; that I may turn to the right hand, or to the left.

50  Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, The thing proceedeth from the LORD: we cannot speak unto thee bad or good.

51  Behold, Rebekah is before thee, take her, and go, and let her be thy master's son's wife, as the LORD hath spoken.

52  And it came to pass, that, when Abraham's servant heard their words, he worshipped the LORD, bowing himself to the earth.

53  And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment, and gave them to Rebekah: he gave also to her brother and to her mother precious things.

54  And they did eat and drink, he and the men that were with him, and tarried all night; and they rose up in the morning, and he said, Send me away unto my master.

55  And her brother and her mother said, Let the damsel abide with us a few days, at the least ten; after that she shall go.

56  And he said unto them, Hinder me not, seeing the LORD hath prospered my way; send me away that I may go to my master.

57  And they said, We will call the damsel, and enquire at her mouth.

58  And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man?

And she said, I will go.

59  And they sent away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham's servant, and his men.

60  And they blessed Rebekah, and said unto her, Thou art our sister, be thou the mother of thousands of millions, and let thy seed possess the gate of those which hate them.

61  And Rebekah arose, and her damsels, and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man: and the servant took Rebekah, and went his way.

62  And Isaac came from the way of the well Lahairoi; for he dwelt in the south country.

63  And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming.

64  And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel.

65  For she had said unto the servant, What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us? And the servant had said, It is my master: therefore she took a vail, and covered herself.

66  And the servant told Isaac all things that he had done.

67  And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

Psalm

17 Hear the right, O LORD, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips.

2  Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; let thine eyes behold the things that are equal.

3  Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

4  Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer.

5  Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not.

6  I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.

7  Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them.

8  Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,

9  From the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about.

10  They are inclosed in their own fat: with their mouth they speak proudly.

11  They have now compassed us in our steps: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth;

12  Like as a lion that is greedy of his prey, and as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.

13  Arise, O LORD, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword:

14  From men which are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

15  As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.
